Held annually on June 7th and 8th, the Gaokao is arguably one of the most significant milestones in the lives of Chinese teenagers.
The Gaokao system is a subject of intense debate, both in China and globally. On one hand, it is seen as the only fair and suitable selection system for China. On the other hand, its negative impacts on children, families, and society are hotly contested.
